To all artists interested in participating in
the First Annual Austin Festival of Plagiarism.
FOP Is The Weekend of November 3rd – 5th
@ the
Enchanted Forest
1412 Oltorf Austin TX, 78704
The event officially
begins at 8pm on Friday Nov. 3rd and goes till Sunday Nov. 5th.
What is and where is
the Enchanted Forest?
The Enchanted Forest (EF) is one of the most
unique space’s/venue/forest in S. Austin. It’s goal is
to be an Art Mecca for everyone. And lucky for the art community here in Austin
they love all things art. It's a way cool and funky alternative venue made up
of, well a forest, woods, trees, what have you, with paths all through out the
3 acres of land, a stage, a dry creek bed, and ya
just have to see it to believe it. The EF can accommodate up to several hundred
participants and spectators. PLUS- There is limited camping space for out of
town artists or if you just want to spend the night.
The EF is Located just off S. Lamar on Oltorf, next to the Office Depot.
Feel free to come by and see the forest through
out the month of Oktober. They are in current
production for their annual Haunted Forest- happening throughout the month of Oktober- starting on Friday the 13th. Check it
Artists-
We are open to
anything so if you have special specific specifics about your piece email tym@festivalofplagiarism call Tym Simpson at :

I am a painter/
sculptor/ static work artist who wants to contribute
If you have static work you want in- posters,
paintings, sculpture, installations prints or what ever- you must install it
yourself. Placement is done on a first come first served basis along the paths
of the forest.
Installation of Art will
happen Wed. Nov. 1st through Sun Nov. 5th
We of course suggest to all professional
plagiarizers that you come out and install the day or three before, for prime
time placement in the forest.
But the beauty of FOP is that anyone can take
part in. This is why we will be accepting all forms of plagiarized work
throughout the event! And folks, spontaneous plagiarism works
great too. Heard about the show but your from out of town and still want to be
part of FOP. Well get ahold of us and will see if we
can make it work.
Will my work be safe?
This is an outdoor gallery space so keep that in
mind. In case of rain I will make an effort to cover large water sensitive work
but cannot guerentee such. For that matter
considering the nature of the event I cannot be held responsible for any
damaged work due to weather or various acts of god or human. (though its highly unlikely any human damage will occur)
What about live
performance stuff?
There will be a stage with lighting and a full
PA, for all forms of performance. Please let me know and
confirm ASAP. I will do anything within my means to facilitate
your (stolen)work.
Stage Specs- approx
16' by 24'.
Sound- Full PA, Sound
board monitors Microphones.
Lighting- will be a very basic
stage wash and follow spot.
Sets- Half hour max sets please. More
time allowed schedule permitting of course. I have no idea just yet how likely
that is but the sooner y'all confirm the quicker I can tell you. No prima dons
or donnas please! If you really need more time for
your stage stuff contact me ASAP. Cover bands very
encouraged for evening stage times.
What about film video and
audio work?
A projection screen will be available for dvd, vhs,
or digital cameras. Of course for a stand alone video
installations you will need to provide your own.
Audio submissions should preferably be on cd and will be played throughout non performance times on a
loop through the PA along with select mash ups Tym has stolen off the Internet.
Will there be DJs and
dancing?
You are free to dance anywhere at anytime and
mash ups and appropriated audio source mixes of any kind are most welcome
submissions but there will be no DJs per se as this is not a DJ dance event.
All audio submissions will be randomly played on a loop through the PA.
I'm not from Austin
but want to participate-
If you're sending stuff from afar you gotta pay your own postage and send a self addressed pre
postage paid package or envelope if you want it back. Any form of mail art is
most welcome. I will install all mail art on a sheltered bulliton
board in a place where everyone can see it. Digital photo documentation of each
submission will be put up on the website in a downloadable form after the
event.
For mail art or out of
town stuff the mailing address for submissions is:

Are there any $fees$-
will anyone be making $money$ off of this?
Ahem… We are artists, we do not make money-
Serious though there are no
“registration fees” nor hidden fees. But wait that’s not all, due to the
nature of the theme absolutely no art sales will be permitted on site. Or
course you may feel free to put outlandishly high price tags on your work if
you so choose. And for the record this is a low budget production, financed mostly
out of our small pockets and dreams.
There is a suggested
$5 donation at the gate but no one is turned away for lack of funds and we mean
that emphatically.
From The Creator, we
mean borrower, errr dude who stole the idea-
Tym Simpson
My own plagiarized work for this event is the
event itself as a public domain concept and to expose like minded artists to
each other's work.
All donations will be used to defray the costs
of the event, primarily the light and sound rental and printing costs and some
for the space if any is left over. This really is strictly non profit. I will
not be able to reimburse artists for costs- would that I could.
What do you need from
me?
Art borrowed art stolen art dang oh man
plagiarized art. Did we mention we need you the looting citizen to participate
in FOP. We want your plagiarized confirmation that
you'll be submitting some stolen art, performing some borrowed art, speaking someone
else’s art, using intellectual property rights of anyone other than yours.
Finally we need for you to spread the word.
Go to the website, download and distribute
groovy plagiarized posters, submit your plagiarized poster. Tell everyone you
wrote it. If you send us posters in PDF format we will be happy to place them
on the site for public use. Feel free to forward festival info anywhere to
anyone or any e-mail list or BBS.
We'll be doing some more serious propaganda all
this month and would like to include artists' or band names. Feel free to
use whatever moniker you like. We do know for a fact that the well known Karen
Elliot will be presenting. (for those of you who
don't know Karen Elliot is a public domain artists' name- google
if curious)
If you have any more questions ask away via tym@festivalofplagiarism.com
Hope to hear more from you soon. Please confirm
your work, its specifications and whatever else ASAP.
Thanx! Now go steal some art or something.
